With that being said, here's my review on the new Sonic Boom episodes, which aired on November 22, 2014.
"My Fair Sticksy"
This episode starts with meteors raining down on the village. Sticks quickly activates her Meteor Defense System, which are giant paddles whacking them away, treating them like tennis balls.
Later, she receives a letter, letting her know that due to her heroic act, she's been nominated for an Awardy, (Well, it less dumb than names for other award shows... like ESPy Awards...) taking place at the mayor's mansion. (who is the same rat guy from the Sonic Boom Wii U game. I'm starting to see a pattern...
) Sticks is reluctant to go, because the event is so fancy-schmancy and she's so... well, Sticksy.
(She mentioned rummaging through garbage a lot... You'd think she was part raccoon.
) Thanks to her friends about it being a very great opportunity and the fact that she could win a shiny trophy (Ha, ha. Sticks and her shinies. Another reference to the Sonic Boom Wii U game.
), they convince her to give it a try. Amy, after having Sonic agree to be a male escort (not that kind of escort!
) for Sticks, helps Sticks to be ladylike, which leads to lessons about compliments, proper introductions, dancing, and the whole extending pinkies bit. Seeing that she is ready, or close enough as the case may be, they head for the party. As Sticks does her best from the lessons she's learned (by randomly sniffing people and giving some not so flattering compliments), Knuckles, after expressing his distaste of the fancy food being served, managed to make some new friends in the upper crust community. (Funny side note: One of the rich folk said asinine... I didn't think they could get away with saying ass on that cartoon.
) After Sticks is confused as to why fancy folk would need so many utensils to eat, Eggman comes and crashes the party... sort of... Apparently, Eggman was also nominated for this award as well... after having his robot stuff the ballots with his name... Sticks, still trying to act ladylike, just proceeds to drink soup... straight from the bowl... with her pinkies extended. (Eggman: "That's how a lady slurps soup from a bowl.") Unfortunately, neither Eggman nor Sticks won the award, and that made Eggman irate. He soon sent his robots in the mansion and attack everyone. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy soon confronted to robots, only to get trapped in Eggman's force field. Sticks, remembering that proper ladies don't fight, tried to maintain her ladylike style. Soon, she realized proper means squat in this case, and she ripped off her fancy dress (Apparently she was wearing her normal clothes under that dress...), and went wild-style again! Quickly making a spoon into a boomerang, she quickly frees her friends. (Another side note: As Eggman was about to attack Knuckles, his new fancy friends saved him. Nice.) Sonic quickly ran circles around Eggman and his robot while Sticks went ECW and threw a garbage can at them, destroying the robot and sent Eggman running. Amy thanked Sticks for the save, as Sticks stole the trophy for herself.
"Fortress of Squalitude"
As Eggman was shredding unwanted letters (into Cubot), he comes across a letter saying his lair is up for consideration in being featured on the cover in a magazine called Modern Lair Magazine. (Huh... Go figure...) Eggman and his 2 henchbots quickly clean up and spruce up the lair, (which included shining up Eggman's surprisingly large closet of boots. Seriously, how many pairs of boots can one evil genius have?!) (Side note: there's mention of a roller coaster in that lair, too. Most likely a reference to the Sonic Colors game.
) only to have the magazine's visiting photographer's assistant less than impressed... Eggman, in a panic, convinces the assistant to give him a week to change up his lair. Successful in his pleas, he realizes he's going to need special help in giving his lair the style and flair the magazine is looking for. Enter Amy Rose, as she prepares a fancy picnic dinner, making the nicest looking picnic table ever, complete with an ice sculpture swan. But, with Sticks surrounding the area with a trench filled with broken glass, Sonic sleeping instead of making fruit drinks, Tails replacing the soothing music with loud electronica rock, and Knuckles using the chickens for puppets, Amy felt like her plans were ruined. Then Eggman shows up and explains that he wants to hire Amy to help redecorate his lair. Amy, feeling unappreciated by her friends, gladly accepts and goes willingly. Amy (as well as Orbot & Cubot) helps by repainting the lair, putting up plaid curtains and carpets (and re-painting Orbot & Cubot plaid), replacing a picture of Eggman with a picture of certain colorful ponies (Because nothing says evil like colorful ponies...), leaving rose petals on the floor, adding a laser light show in the hallway, and hanging up Orbot & Cubot like a ceiling fan or a baby toy mobile. (There's even a funny bit with Amy & Eggman rearranging a throw pillow on the couch until Eggman finally vaporizes it.
) When the photographer's assistant arrives and sees the changes, he loves what he sees. (Okay...) He then says to "danger up the entryway a little" and he'll be guaranteed the cover shot. Amy gets angry when Eggman takes credit for all the designs she made and goes to leave only to have Eggman trap her, so she can finish her job, one way or the other. Meanwhile, Sonic and his friends, after burning the chickens, are concerned about Amy, especially after regretting they ruined her plans. They go ahead and sneak into Eggman's base (via sewer pipe. Sonic Adventure reference.
) and rescue Amy from Eggman's cage. Armed with her hammer, Amy, Sonic, and the gang end up trashing Eggman's robots and his lair. Just as the photographer and her assistant showed up after the carnage, his chances of getting anywhere in that magazine were trashed as well.
Afterwards Sonic offers Amy a chance to redecorate his place. (Only, no touching his coconut-husk collection, no painting, washing, plastering, or cleaning.
)
This week was really funny! Especially since there was a Sticks focused episode and an Amy focused episode. I really like how they're placing more Sonic game references in their episodes, too.
Oh, and another reminder, my
